Does Claude store data in Canada?
Claude Team and Enterprise plans (the Claude apps, including Claude Code and Claude Desktop)
No.
Claude does not offer storage in Canada. Where it is processed: Outside Canada: by default Anthropic may route traffic "to select countries in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia"; usage-based Enterprise plans can switch on US-only inference. It is owned by a US company, so the US CLOUD Act can require it to produce data it controls, wherever that data is stored.

The facts, claim by claim
- Where data is stored
- No Canadian option. For Anthropic's commercial products, such as Claude Enterprise, "data is stored in the US"
- Where it is processed
- Outside Canada: by default Anthropic may route traffic "to select countries in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia"; usage-based Enterprise plans can switch on US-only inference
- Support and backups
- Internal processes such as "safety-related review, product support, or incident response" may happen in countries where Anthropic or its affiliates operate. Connected services such as Slack or Google Drive process data on their own infrastructure
- Owner
- Anthropic PBC (San Francisco, CA), the contracting entity for customers outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK · Parent country: United States
- Servers run by
- Multiple cloud providers (Anthropic's subprocessor list) · US company
- Customer-held keys
- Not recorded
- Certifications
- SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001, 27017 and 27018, CSA STAR (Anthropic)
- Worth knowing
- Claude can be kept in Canada only through a cloud provider: Anthropic lists Canada as a region on Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI (not Microsoft Foundry). That is the API, not these plans.
- Caveats
- Team plans and seat-based Enterprise plans don't get the US-only inference setting. No page read names a storage location other than the US: ask Anthropic whether Claude Enterprise data can be stored anywhere else.
What the rules say about this
- US CLOUD Act: The owner is a US company: storing data in Canada does not take it out of reach of US legal process.
- Nova Scotia public bodies: Storage outside Canada needs the head of the public body's approval and a report.
- Federal Protected B: Canadian facilities are the principal option departments must evaluate; this listing offers none.
- Québec Law 25: A privacy impact assessment is required before personal information leaves Québec.
- OCAP®: Data held by any outside vendor is not in the Nation's possession, whoever owns the vendor.
Summaries only; each rule page links the law or regulator. Not legal advice. Before you sign with Claude, ask the 15 questions in the printable vendor questionnaire.
