For vendors
If your product is listed
Held in Canada records, for 145 products, where Canadian customers' data is stored, where it is processed, and who owns the company. It is written for buyers in health care, First Nations and the public sector. This page is for the companies listed.
How a listing is researched
- Every fact comes from your own public pages, or your parent's: trust centre, privacy policy, subprocessor list, data processing agreement, region documentation. Each listing links them and the date they were read.
- Storage, processing and ownership are recorded separately. “Canadian servers” answers the first, not the other two.
- The tier is computed from those facts, never typed in by hand. The tiers explain the rule.
- If your pages don't say, the listing says “not stated” and is marked not yet confirmed. Nothing is filled in from memory, sales material or a guess.
- Research continues every day, adding listings and rechecking existing ones. The full method is on the methodology page.
Listings can't be bought
Being listed is free, and so are corrections and the badge. Listings, tiers and rankings are never for sale. If the site carries sponsors in future, they will be labelled “Sponsor” and kept outside the tier lists.
Correcting a listing
Email corrections@heldincanada.ca with the listing, what is wrong, and a link to the page on your site that shows it. An emailed answer can't be cited by itself, because readers can't check it. If no page says it yet, publishing one (a trust centre entry, a line in your privacy policy, a subprocessor list) is what lets the listing change. Each correction is checked against that page, the listing is re-dated, and the change stays in the site's history.
Not listed yet? Send the same address links to your own pages that state where data is stored and who owns the company. A suggestion isn't a guarantee of a listing, and it can't buy a better one.
The badge
Every listed product has a badge that shows its current tier. It is served from this site, so it changes when the listing does, up or down. Here is Sync.com's:
To embed yours, use this code with your listing's address (the last part of /vendors/your-product/). Each listing page also has its own code, ready to copy, under “this listing's badge”. Find your listing.
<a href="https://heldincanada.ca/vendors/sync-com/"><img src="https://heldincanada.ca/vendors/sync-com/badge.svg" alt="Sync.com on Held in Canada" height="22"></a>The badge is a statement of what your own pages say, checked on a date. It is not a certification, an audit or legal advice, and it says nothing about your product's quality, security or price.
