AI assistants
Chat assistants for staff. Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT Enterprise can store conversations in Canada; Gemini and Claude store them in the US or Europe. None of the US assistants here commits to running the model in Canada yet (Microsoft expects to in 2027). Cohere's North, the Canadian-owned option, runs on servers you choose.
Also shown here, from other categories: Google Workspace (listed under office suites).
Run it yourself: 1; US-owned, Canadian region: 2; Data leaves Canada: 2
No Canadian-owned AI assistant that keeps data in Canada could be confirmed. This is one of the gaps the research found.
What to ask any AI assistant
- Are prompts, responses and uploaded files stored in Canada, and on which plans?
- Where does the model itself run, and can that be kept in Canada?
- Which features send data elsewhere: web search, connectors, models from another company?
